On Jan. 25th 2017, Boeing Co. released earnings for the fourth quarter and full year 2016.
"With solid fourth quarter operating performance and a sharp strategic focus, we extended our aerospace market leadership in our centennial year and positioned Boeing for continued growth and success in our second century," said Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Dennis Muilenburg.
"We led the industry in commercial airplane deliveries for the fifth consecutive year, achieved healthy sales in our defense, space and services segments, and produced record operating cash flow, which fueled investment in innovation and our people and generated significant returns to shareholders."
Revenues produced by Boeing in the fourth quarter of 2016 totalled $23.3 billion, down 1% from $23.6 billion in the fourth quarter of 2015.
Net earnings for the fourth quarter reached $1.6 billion, up 59% from $1.0 billion in the same quarter of 2015. Operating margin was 9.4%, up 4.5 points from 4.9% in the fourth quarter of 2015.
Operating cash flow was $2.8 billion, down 9% from $3.1 billion in the fourth quarter of 2015.
GAAP earnings per share (EPS) for the fourth quarter was $2.59, up 72% from $1.51 in the same period of last year. Non-GAAP earnings per share (EPS) was $2.47, up 54% from $1.60 in the same period, a year ago.
Commercial airplanes delivered in the fourth quarter totalled 185, up 2% year-over-year, while earnings from operations decreased 39% year-over-year. Defence, Space & Security revenues dropped 12% year-over-year with an 18% loss in revenue from military aircraft.
Revenues produced by Boeing in FY16 totalled $94.6 billion, down 2% from $96.1 billion in FY15.
Net earnings for FY16 totalled $4.9 billion, down 5% from $5.2 billion in 2015. Operating margin was 6.2%, down 1.5 points from 7.7% in FY15.
Operating cash flow for the full year was $10.5 billion, up 12% from $9.4 billion in FY15.
GAAP earnings per share (EPS) was $7.61 for FY16, from $7.44 in FY15, representing 2% growth year-over-year. Non-GAAP earnings per share (EPS) was $7.24, down 6% from $7.72 in FY15.
Boeing delivered 748 commercial airplanes in FY16, 2% less than in FY15. Defence, Space & Security generated 3% less revenue year-over-year with a 7% revenue drop in military aircraft.
